01 Create your account and shop
Sign up at app.kastomise.com with “Sign up with Google”, or with your email and “Create Account” (then click the link in the activation email). On “Create your first shop”, click “Create your shop”, enter a “Shop name” and click “Create shop”.
- A shop created this way starts in Kastomise Hosted mode on the free plan, with no card.
- Choose the shop name with care: it sets your hosted address, go.kastomise.com/your-shop-name/, which never changes, even if you rename the shop. It’s shown under Settings → Shop Details → “Hosted address”.
- Already have a shop connected to Shopify? A shop runs one way at a time. To switch, go to Settings → Integrations, choose “Kastomise Hosted” and click “Save connection mode”.
02 Create a product config
A config describes one product: its print areas (zones) and their sizes, layouts, fonts and options. In the dashboard, go to Configs → “Create New Config”, choose “Create new config” and click “Continue”. Enter a “Config name” and a “Print PPI”, click “Create”, then set up at least one zone in the editor.
- The config name sets the next part of the page address, go.kastomise.com/your-shop-name/config-name/. Like the shop’s, it never changes, even if you rename the config.
- To start from a config you already have, choose “Duplicate from existing” instead.
- Rather not build it yourself? Request a quote and we’ll set it up for you, as a paid service.
What each part of a config means: product config guide. Setup service: request a quote.
03 Fill in the Kastomise Hosted tab
In the config editor’s sidebar, under “Global settings”, open “Kastomise Hosted”. This is the product page shoppers land on, and only the title and base price are required. Here’s what each section does.
- Product details
- “Title” and “Base price”, both required. Until both are saved, the page isn’t live.
- Images
- The product gallery, in the order you drag them into. JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF or AVIF, up to 10 MB each.
- Customisation type
- The ways the product can be personalised, such as text only, or text and pictures. Each option’s “Value” must match a zone order key in the Mappings tab, its “Shopper-facing label” is what shoppers see, and its “+ Price” is added to the base price. Tick “Show switcher on the page” to let shoppers choose; it appears once there are two options.
- Option fields
- Choices shown before the editor opens: colour swatches, segmented buttons, radio cards, a dropdown, a slider or a text input, each choice with an optional price. Set a colour field’s “Builder connection” to background colour to colour the design to match.
- Extras
- Add-ons shoppers can switch on, each with its own price.
- Click “Save changes” when you’re done. Shoppers always see the saved version.
- Only the design is saved with a shopper’s code, not their option-field or extras choices. Offer the same choices on your store’s listing, so shoppers pick them again when they buy.
04 Preview it, then go live
Until the title and base price are saved, the “Hosted page URL” card at the top of the tab says “Your hosted page isn’t live yet”, and shoppers who open the link see “not available yet”. Click “Preview” to see the page as shoppers will, with a preview strip. Once both fields are saved, the card says “Your hosted page is live”.
- A preview link lasts 24 hours. Click “Preview” again for a fresh one.
- The Configs list marks each config “Live” or “Not live”.
05 Add the link to your store
Click “Copy” on the “Hosted page URL” card and add the link to the matching product on your store or marketplace listing: as a button, a menu link or a line in the product description.
- Under “Customisation type URLs” there’s a link for each customisation option, which opens the page on that type. Changing an option’s Value changes its link.
- The hosted page has no buy button and doesn’t link back to your store. Tell shoppers in your listing to save their design there and paste the code when they order.
- Give your checkout somewhere to paste the code, such as an order note or a personalisation field.
- Shoppers pay on your store, so set the product’s price there. The hosted page’s prices show with a $ sign and have no currency setting.
06 What your shoppers do
Shoppers pick their options and click “Customise & preview”. The editor takes them through each print area to a final “Review & confirm” step, where “Save design & get code” saves the design and shows “Your design code”, such as KD-7F3K9Q2M, with a “Copy code” button. They paste the code into your order form when they buy.
- Codes are KD- and 8 characters, never using 0, O, 1, I or L, so they’re easy to read back.
- If a shopper goes back and saves again, the new design gets a new code.
07 Find the design and print it
When an order comes in with a code, go to Orders → “Design codes” in the dashboard. Under “Find a design”, enter the code and click “Look up”. Lowercase, spaces or a missing KD- are fine. The design’s page has a high-res print file (PDF) for each print area under “Generated images”, or “Download all” for a zip.
- In the design’s “Order” card, set the status to Ordered, add the order reference and customer details, and click “Save changes”.
- Designs left as Saved are deleted with their print files 90 days after they were saved. Setting the status to Ordered keeps the design.
- When it’s printed, click “Mark printed” in the list.
08 Choose a plan when you’re ready When you need more
The free plan covers one product config, and its editor on the hosted page shows a Kastomise watermark. Every paid plan removes the watermark, and print files never carry it. Paid plans add more configs; Pro adds a 3D preview with a colour picker, and Studio also adds a 3D teaser to the page’s gallery (both need a 3D model in the config). Plans bought in the dashboard are billed by card in AUD.
- A small “Powered by Kastomise” credit stays on the hosted product page on every plan.
Compare plans on the pricing page.
Troubleshooting
- Shoppers see “not available yet”
- The title or base price is empty, or the change isn’t saved. Fill both in on the Kastomise Hosted tab and click “Save changes”.
- Shoppers see “Couldn’t load this product”
- Check that the shop is in Kastomise Hosted mode (Settings → Integrations), the config is switched on (“Active in widget” in its Settings tab), it isn’t marked “Over limit” in the Configs list, “Require a signed widget token” is off in Settings, the config has at least one zone, and the link was copied whole.
- The preview link stopped working
- Preview links last 24 hours. Click “Preview” again for a new one.
- A customisation type link opens the wrong layout
- Each option’s “Value” must match a zone order key in the Mappings tab. If two Values would make the same link, the tab shows a warning: rename one.
- “No design found” for a code
- Check the code with the customer: 8 characters after KD-, never 0, O, 1, I or L. A code only finds designs saved on your own shop’s pages, and designs left as Saved are deleted after 90 days.
